Hotel Villa Emilia Barcelona
Within a few minutes' walking distance of the Plaza España lies the Hotel Villa Emilia. A clean-lined, modern hotel with period features. This hotel, with its beautiful, careful use of colour throughout, plenty of red details, has a pleasant and warm atmosphere. It is a fairly new hotel, established in 2006, to be precise. The hotel is privately owned and is not part of a chain. The brief was clear: plenty of attention to detail and exciting combinations because the result had to be an amazing hotel. And if you ask us, this mission has been more than accomplished!
The hotel counts 53 rooms and a nice additional touch (at least, in our opinion) is that smoking is not allowed in any of the rooms. Ardent smokers can seek refuge in the Zinc bar downstairs which, incidentally, is no hardship at all as this is a very cosy bar with an almost homely feel to it. It has been designed as a separate bar and is also open to the general public. They really know how to make a good cocktail here! The atmosphere is relaxed, intimate, with nice easy-listening lounge music, open fire and a grand piano. You can also enjoy a snack here and this is also where breakfast is served to hotel guests.
And if you want to retreat and fancy some fresh air, just wander up to the roof of the hotel to the large roof terrace of about 200 square metres. Sink into one of the comfortable sofas on the wooden decking or into a deep hanging chair, the palm trees will provide the shade.
We found Hotel Villa Emilia an original hotel, with a lovely atmosphere and an attractive decor. A real must, in other words!

Barcelona
Barcelona is a popular destination and you can easily see why. This city has literally got it all: numerous places of interest; a fabulous, clean beach; plenty of pavement cafés; good food; trendy shops and a vibrant nightlife!
As far as places of interest are concerned, you are absolutely spoilt for choice! To list but a few:
How about taking a look around Gaudi's works of art: park Güell, La Sagrada Familia, Casa La Pedrera/Casa Milà.
You can work your way around the city's places of interest district by district. For instance, in the old city, you will find the cathedral and many art museums, Museu Picasso and, of course, also historic buildings such as Casa de la Ciutat, Palau de la Generalitat.
Take a stroll down the Rambla (although we think that the more northerly Rambla de Catalunya is more worthwhile!).
In the Eixample district, you will find de Sagrada Familia but do not forget about the Modernista buildings (such as Casa Milà, La Pedrera, Casa Terrades, Hospital de la Santa).
Shop until you drop in the fashionable shops along the Passeig del Gràcia.
Take the little train up to the top of the Montjuïc hill to the Castell de Montjuïc, take a moment to enjoy the fantastic view of de city and then visit the Plaça d´Espanya, the Poble Espanyol (copy of a Spanish village built in different Spanish architectural styles) and various museums.
And there is also something of interest for the football enthusiasts among you: the Museu del Futbol Club Barcelona which, combined with a tour of the stadium, is a fabulous attraction in itself (particularly great for dads and their sons).
And when you have had your fill of the city's abundant cultural offerings for awhile, simply head to the beach of Barceloneta with its groovy beach tents for some good food and flashy cocktails. The city's motto seems to be to enjoy life to the max and why not?
So as you can see, there is never a dull moment in this top city. One visit will leave you wanting for one thing only... to return for another visit soon!
