Hotel Neptuno
This is a fantastic combination of a trendy hotel, overlooking a vast sandy beach, and a fabulous city, just waiting to be discovered only a few minutes away by underground. This combo is an option so many people know from visiting Barcelona. Valencia is a little less well-known by most travellers but it is certainly worth a visit and it is a very up-and-coming travel destination!
Hotel Neptuno is beautifully situated on a long boulevard from which you can step straight onto the kilometres-long beach and right next to the city's lively new marina.
Hotel Neptuno has been decorated in a bright and airy, modern avant-garde style and has 48 rooms. Some of these offer a view of the palm trees, beach and sea, others overlook the marina. In other words, you don't really get the feeling here that you are staying in a big city.
Enormous lounge furnished with those huge sofas that seem to swallow you up almost entirely, a fabulous terrace on the boulevard side with, of course, a view of the beach and sea. There is also a roof terrace with loungers, solarium and Jacuzzi and the 2 suites have a private terrace and Jacuzzi.
As for the rooms, they all have large en suite bathrooms and have been furnished using light materials and fabrics, giving them a very bright and airy feel. All rooms have big, comfortable beds and, a nice little extra, a safe big enough to hold a laptop. All bathrooms have been fitted with hydro-massage baths.
There is a top restaurant at the hotel with, as you would expect, a great choice of fish dishes on the menu. But if this doesn't quite tickle your taste buds, there are plenty of tasty alternatives so you certainly won't have to go hungry. Moreover, all along the boulevard there is a string of little restaurants, each serving their own speciality dishes.
This is a perfect combination, a city visit followed by some serious relaxing in full beach mode. An absolute must!
Cons:
• Except for the 2 suites, none of the other rooms have a terrace but they do have fabulous views!
• No swimming pool at the hotel
Pros:
• Perfect location, great combination of beach and city
• Parking facilities right on your doorstep
• Underground stop very near the hotel, with the historic city centre only a 10 minute ride away
• Excellent restaurant

surrounding area
Valencia
How could you not enjoy spending time in a city which has more than 300 days of sunshine a year?
The old city centre is fairly compact, a walk around the city will take you along all of the places of interest Valencia has to offer.
From the Catedral de Santa Mará at the Plaza de la Reina, where you can climb the Micalet for a wonderful view of the city, along many other churches and buildings: Real Basílica de Nuestra Señora de los Desamparados, Palau de la Generalitat (buildings of parliament), Iglesia de San Nicolás (old church), Lonja de la Seda (the Silk Exchange), Iglesia de San Martín, Museo Nacional de Cerámica ´González Marti´(ceramic art museum), Real Colegio del Patriarca (renaissance palace) and the Almudin (old grain depot).
There are also plenty of museums to visit, including the Museo de Historia de Valencia and the Museo de Bellas Artas (museum of fine arts).
Make sure that you do not miss out on the Ciudad de las Artes y las Ciencias. This huge imposing and futuristic complex houses the Hemisfèric (IMAX theatre), Museo de las Ciencas Principe Felipe (interactive science museum), Oceanogràfic (with plenty of aquariums and the longest underwater tunnel in Europe (70 metres long)) and the Palau de les Arts Reina Sofía (big theatre).
And if you have had enough of looking at buildings and walking around the city, you can chill out in one of the many parks dotted around Valencia, the Jardines del Turia or the Jardines del Real.
Or perhaps you fancy taking a nice look around the first botanic garden of Spain, the Jardín Botánico.
Valencia, just like Barcelona, offers that great combination of city and beach: hop on the underground and within 10 minutes, you will have reached the long beach of Playa de la Malvarrosa.
There really is more to Valencia than its paella culture, it is also a very trendy city with a fantastic nightlife.
And if you want to learn Spanish or wish to take dance classes, there are plenty of options available to you here, plus you will also get to know a lot of new people along the way. Bonus!
Active
Take a walk around the city or explore Valencia by bicycle.
Family
A visit to the Ciudad de las Artes y las Ciencias, where you can find the science museum, the Oceanogràfic and the Hemisfèric, is highly recommended!
The Oceanogràfic is home to over 45,000 aquatic animals. At the science museum, there are plenty of experiments for everyone to get stuck into and the Hemisfèric shows films for all ages on a huge screen which really gives you a sense of being right in the middle of the action.
And let's not forget the beach, always great for a fun time!
Other nice places to take the children are the gardens, the Jardines del Real with a road safety training park, and the Jardín Botánico. Or you could climb 'Gulliver' in the Jardines del Turia.
