Valldemossa is such a charming, friendly little village! With barely 2000 inhabitants, it has a romantic setting, nestled among the rolling hills and valleys, and is still only a 15 minutes' drive from Palma de Majorca.

We took a gentle stroll through the stone-paved alleyways, along the cosy High Street, shaded by the many trees, had a relaxing cup of coffee at one of the many pavement cafés before moving onto the super-friendly village baker's to buy warm rolls and be seriously tempted by the freshly baked cakes. Everyone we met was incredibly friendly and to top it all off, we found a very charming hotel. We couldn't have had a better day!

Es Petit Hotel de Valldemossa is owned by Margarita and Gonzalo, a friendly, hardworking couple who will do anything to ensure that your stay at their hotel is an enjoyable experience. This cosy little hotel, with 8 rooms, fits in perfectly in this charming village. Built in the beautiful natural stone typical of Majorca, this renovated village house with its large green window shutters oozes a welcoming warmth. The hotel has a large, inviting terrace and a stunning garden where, in the winter, you can bask in the sunshine, lost in a good book, and in the summer, find shelter in the cool shade of the trees, with a nice gentle breeze. It's times like this that make you realise that life is good.

The rooms are basic, with no frills and fuss, clean and every room has been decorated in a different style. Breakfast is excellent and it is so nice to be able to take your plate of local delicacies out onto the terrace where you can enjoy your breakfast in absolute tranquillity, overlooking the valley.

After that, you are spoilt for choice as to how to spend your day. There are many great walking routes in the area, you can go cycling or you can hop in the car for a fabulous daytrip to the surrounding villages. Alternatively, you can just laze about in the village, have another drink at one of the pavement cafés and take another saunter up to the village baker's because those cakes really were exceptionally delicious!

• There is no restaurant at the hotel but there is a great choice of places to eat in the village

Valldemossa
An attractive blend of threelined streets and old stone houses. A visit to the grand monastery Cartuja de Vallemossa should not be missed, a beautiful building with lovely gardens and great views. The village is well known because of the stay in the monastery of the composer Chopin in the winter of 1828.
At 7 km drive leads down to the sea to Port de Valldemossa, a rocky cove.
