Hotel Finca Es Castell
Caimari
When Englishman James met the love of his life on Majorca years ago, he quickly decided that this island would also become his new home. They came up with a plan to buy an ancient farmhouse with lots of land and to renovate it completely into a fabulous hotel. This plan became reality and Finca Es Castell was created!
The ancient farmhouse (which dates from the 12th century!) lies tucked away in the inland countryside of Majorca, in totally peaceful surroundings. You will feel such an overwhelming sense of tranquillity, probably unlike anything you have ever experienced before. The only sounds you will hear are the whispers of the wind and the gentle tinkling of the bells of sheep grazing in the distance. Every now and again, a fly will buzz past and a church bell will toll in the distance.
In short, this is the ideal place to visit if you want to escape the stresses and strains of everyday life.
From the sleepy village of Binibona, if you follow the gravel path which runs between the olive and almond groves, it will take you to the Finca.
James will already have come out to meet you to give you a warm welcome and to proudly present the Finca, his life's work, to you. He will show you the lounge, the beautiful patios with plenty of shade from all the plants and trees, the beautifully designed swimming pool, the romantic terrace and roof terrace which offer spectacular views of all the surrounding villages. Perhaps the picture we are painting here is already familiar to you, that of villages where the church has been the tallest building for centuries. A very charming view.
After a refreshing drink, it is time to check out one of the 12 rooms which are permanently cool thanks to the enormously thick walls.
If you have built up an appetite during your trip, no problem. The cuisine here is one of the best! The most sensational dishes are put together with plenty of home-grown ingredients. You can literally taste the sun! The menu changes daily and depends on which seasonal produce is available at the time, everything is fresh! And to top it all off, all these delicious meals are served on the terrace or the beautiful inner courtyard, where olives used to be pressed in times gone by. The press is still here!
There is plenty to do so you won't get bored. You can relax by the swimming pool, take daytrips into the surrounding villages, go for walks in the area or on the grounds of the Finca, and when there is harvesting to be done, you are welcome to help out. James also organises fishing trips to local creeks, you can go horse riding or even mountain biking.
And after all this exertion, it's time to enjoy a nice refreshing drink by the swimming pool in the shade of the bougainvillea!
In short, this is a fantastic place to stay and when you do, you will soon understand why this Finca is ranked among the top 10 most idyllic hotels in Majorca!
Cons:
• The only thing we have managed to come up with is that there are no TVs in the rooms, but let's face it, who would want to watch television when staying in such beautiful surroundings?
Pros:
• Wonderful atmosphere which really takes you back in time
• Peace, tranquillity and more of the same
• Only 20 minutes from the nearest beach
• Excellent restaurant
